Anna Silk is a Canadian television, film, and theatre actress.
Biography
Silk is the daughter of Ilkay Silk,[1] a prominent playwright, stage director, acting teacher, and Director of Drama at St. Thomas University in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada (retired 2014). Her father Peter Silk is a British academic. Her sister is Canadian musician Mandy Silk.
She went to Fredericton High School, in Fredericton, New Brunswick; and studied psychology at St. Thomas University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in 1997.[2]
Silk appeared in several commercials as a child and early theater work includes at least two productions with Theatre St. Thomas: "Seven Menus" and "The Kitchen", but it wasn't until she graduated from university that her interest in acting took hold.
In November 1999, Silk moved to Toronto, Canada, to take acting classes at an independent studio; occasionally going to and from Los Angeles, California, USA, until relocating and making it her permanent home.[3]
She met her future husband, Seth Cooperman, in 2007 at an actor's workshop in Los Angeles. They were engaged in 2009, and married in a civil ceremony in December of the same year. Silk converted to Judaism and on April 10, 2011, they renewed their vows in a Jewish ceremony in Fredericton.
Anna Silk has one son, Sam, born in May 2013. She became a naturalized citizen of the United States in December 2013.[4]
Career
Silk is recognized by many Canadians for her performance as "Deb", a stressed-out flight attendant trying to quit smoking in the NicoDerm nicotine patch 2006 television commercial, "Irritable".[5]
Television work includes the Global science fiction action adventure Mutant X in the episode "Within These Walls" (2003) as Asia; Court TV legal drama 'Til Death Do Us Part in the episode "Storage Unit Murder" (2007) as Mindy Lohman; CBS supernatural drama Ghost Whisperer in the episode "Big Chills" (2008) as Haylie Wayne. She had a recurring role in the CBC comedy-drama Being Erica as Cassidy Holland in the episodes "Everything She Wants", "The Importance of Being Erica", and "Bear Breasts" (2009-2010).
Film work includes Catye in the comedy short Do Not Bend (2007); and Grace, a contract killer in the action thriller Assassins Tale (2013).
In 2009, Silk landed the protagonist role of Bo Dennis in the pilot for Lost Girl. The pilot was filmed in February and the series was given the green-light for a first season on August 13, 2009.
She found out she was pregnant during production of the finale episode of Season 3 and revealed the good news in the Showcase pre-show special leading into the premiere of the third season, Lost Girl ConFAEdential. On June 4, 2013, Showcase and Prodigy Pictures announced the start of production on Season 4; and on June 20, 2013, Silk announced via Twitter that she was ready to return to work on the show.[6]
Anna Silk announced that Season 5 would be the final season of Lost Girl in a special Showcase video message to fans on August 25, 2014:
- "Hi, I'm Anna Silk, Bo from Lost Girl, and I wanted to share this announcement with you, our fans, first. After five incredible seasons, we have decided that it's time for Bo's journey to come to an epic conclusion. And while endings are always sad, this one comes with a tremendous gift. To deliver the most powerful season yet, we super-sized to sixteen episodes that will air in two parts. So while we might be saying goodbye, we'll be doing it with a bang. Being part of the Lost Girl family has truly been a gift, and you guys have been here since day one. So, on behalf of everybody here at Lost Girl, and everybody who has helped bring this series to life, I thank you. And I will see you when Season Five premieres on Showcase." [7]
Silk received a 2015 Golden Maple Award nomination for "Best Actress in a TV Series Broadcasted in the US" for her performance in Lost Girl.[8] She was nominated for a Gemini Award in 2009 for "Best Performance by an Actress in a Guest Role, Dramatic Series" (Being Erica episode "Everything She Wants").[9]
She won the "Fan Choice Award for Favourite Canadian Screen Star" by the 2015 Canadian Screen Awards.[10]
"Bo and Lauren", portrayed by Anna Silk and Zoie Palmer on Lost Girl, was named one of its all-time "Favorite TV couples" by CNN,[11] and declared "Top TV Couple of 2013" by E! Online.[12]
Anna Silk plays the protagonist role of Bo in Lost Girl:
She played a special role in the following episodes:

Quotes
"I'm glad that, if, that relationship is presented in a really real and loving way, even thought it's in a crazy fantasy world. That's important. And that's something that's always been important to Zoie and I, who plays Lauren."

Biography on Showcase (2013)
Anna Silk (Bo)
Before playing "Bo" on Lost Girl, Anna Silk is perhaps best known for her role as the caustic “Deb” -- the cantankerous flight attendant in the Nicoderm commercials. She divides her time between the big and small screen and has spent the past four years in Los Angeles where one of her fondest roles was playing a hit woman in the film, Stacking Chips. Her film credits also include Breakfast with Scot, Do Not Bend, Where the Truth Lies, and Confessions of a Dangerous Mind.
On the small screen, Silk has had various roles in popular shows in the United States and in Canada. She guest-starred as Jennifer Love Hewitt’s beautiful best friend in The Ghost Whisperer and portrayed the murdering wife in ‘Til Death Do Us Part. Silk also has spent many notable hours on the small screen in Canada with roles in Angela’s Eyes and Puppets Who Kill. She made a memorable guest appearance as “Suzie” on Billable Hours, the “furry” who falls for the company mascot. Most recently, she reprised her role as “Cassidy”, the sultry love interest to the lead on Being Erica – a role for which she was honored with a 2010 Gemini Award nomination.
She’s thrilled to be back for Season 3 of Lost Girl as “Bo” is one of her favorite roles to-date.
