In the Lost Girl Wiki, the term "Supporting Cast"  ( referred to as  "Guest Stars"  in the television industry )  is used for those actors who perform the pivotal roles of ongoing Recurring Characters in the series’ story arc.

The producers of Lost Girl distinguish the Main Cast  ( a.k.a. the Core Actors )  and the Supporting Cast with the billing of actor names in the opening credits of the episodes.

The Supporting Cast names are only credited when they appear in an episode. For example:

♦  Emmanuelle Vaugier when The Morrigan appeared in Episodes 3.03, 3.06, 3.12, 3.13 ( four episodes ) — but does not appear in the opening credits for other episodes of the season because The Morrigan was not involved in their plots.

Paul Amos as Vex

♦  Paul Amos when Vex appeared in Episodes 2.06, 2.21, 2.22 ( three episodes ) — but does not appear in the credits for the other 19 episodes because Vex was not involved in them.

♦  Rachel Skarsten when Tamsin appeared in Episodes 4.04, 4.05, 4.08, 4.09, 4.11, 4.12, 4.13 ( seven episodes ) — but does not appear in the credits for the other six episodes of the season because adult Tamsin was not involved.

MAIN CAST :

The top four Main Cast names appear in the opening title sequence before the name of the series creator, Michelle Lovretta, and Lost Girl show title ( even when one of them does not appear in an episode ):

Anna Silk (Original Pilot, S1, 2, 3, 4, 5)

Kris Holden-Ried (Original Pilot, S1, 2, 3, 4, 5)

Ksenia Solo (Original Pilot, S1, 2, 3, 4, 5)

Zoie Palmer (Original Pilot, S1, 2, 3, 4, 5)

The other Main Cast names appear after the show title in the opening credits superimposed over footage of the first scene:

Rick Howland (Original Pilot, S1, 2, 3, 4, 5)

K.C. Collins (Original Pilot, S1, 2, 3, 4)

( This opening title sequence of billing was introduced after Season 1. )

Rick Howland and K.C. Collins appear in the credits when they appear in episodes and are always listed before the names of the  Supporting Cast  who play recurring characters in the Season (S).

The series premiere episode, It's a Fae, Fae, Fae, Fae World, did not include an opening title sequence. The Showcase opening title sequence was initiated with the second episode of the series, Where There's a Will, There's a Fae.

Supporting Cast as Recurring Characters

Sometimes supporting actors and their recurring characters appear in more than one season — for example: Inga Cadranel as Saskia-Aife in Season 1 ( 3 episodes ), as Aife in Season 3 ( 3 episodes ), Season 4 ( 1 episode ).

Sometimes they appear in only one season — for example: Vincent Walsh as Lachlan (The Ash) in 15 episodes of Season 2 .

The Supporting Cast names are included in the opening credits when they appear in an episode.

Recurring Characters

Recurring Characters are not necessarily included in the plot of every episode in a particular season; however, they play an important reappearing role in it. ( For example: The Nain Rouge )

• A  recurring character  is a fictional character, usually in a prime time TV series, who often and frequently appears from time to time during the series' run. Recurring characters often play major roles in more than one episode, sometimes being the main focus.

• A  supporting character  is a character in a narrative that is not focused on by the primary storyline. Sometimes supporting characters may develop a complex back-story of their own, but this is usually in relation to the main character, rather than entirely independently. In television, supporting characters may appear in more than half of the episodes per season.

Main Actor vs. Supporting Actor billing

"A series regular will still appear in the opening credits, and be given credit for the episode, even if they don't actually appear in the episode. The general idea here is that a series regular, even if they aren't in a particular episode, is contractually required to be available to appear in that episode. A recurring guest actor, on the other hand, is typically contracted to appear in only a specific number of episodes, and can usually skip a particular episode if they have prior commitments. A recurring guest star, with lower billing, may actually get more screen time than a series regular that gets top billing."

Actor contracts and billing in North American television shows must comply with SAG-AFTRA.

Showcase opening title sequence vs. Syfy (U.S.) opening credits

Episodes seen on Syfy in the United States are cut down from their original 44:00 minutes to allow more time for commercial advertisements. When asked about differences between the series shown in the United States versus Canada, executive producer Jay Firestone responded that :90 seconds are cut from the original Showcase episodes for use on Syfy (U.S.).

Beginning with Season 3, the original Showcase opening title sequence accompanied by Anna Silk's voice-over monologue and Lost Girl Theme Song was replaced with opening credits superimposed over footage of the first scene on episodes for Syfy (U.S.) — thus sparing 30 seconds that would have otherwise been included in the overall cutting of episodes for the United States.

In Season 5, the final season, the original Showcase opening title sequence with voice-over monologue by Anna Silk and Lost Girl Theme Song was not used and episode opening credits were superimposed over the first scene. Order of credits:

Ksenia Solo was credited when she appeared in an episode of Season 5.
K.C. Collins left the series after Episode 4.11, End of a Line.

Trivia

In Episode 3.03, ConFaegion, Emmanuelle Vaugier's name was billed "With Guest Star" in the credits.
