The Will-o'-the-wisp is elusive and lives in forests, where it spends its nights searching the woods for precious stones and guards a treasure chest filled with jewels.

He is related to the Fairy in that he uses well-placed fairy fires to throw off humans who wander into his turf.

Trivia

• It does not appear to feed on humans or other Fae.

• Will-o'-the-wisp are atmospheric ghost lights seen by travelers at night, especially over bogs, swamps or marshes. It resembles a flickering lamp and is said to recede if approached, drawing travelers from the safe paths. The phenomenon is known by a variety of names, including jack-o'-lantern and friars's lantern. When observed on graveyards, they are known as "ghost candles". Folk belief attributes the phenomenon to fairies or elemental spirits.
