Aoife or Aife?[]

Usually I quote end credits when I talk about names. Inga Cadranel is listed in front credits, without name of character, so this time I have no proof for my claims.

There are two heroines of Celtic mythology:

  • Aife/Aifa (princess of Land of Shadows, in war with Skatha, overcome by Cuchulain, mother of Connla),
  • Aoife (Lir's second wife).

Both names have the same pronunciation.

To decide what spelling should be used we need sources. I think that proper spelling is 'Aife', since this spelling was used in all the subtitles I saw. Moreover, I think that spelling 'Aoife' is erroneous, since it was introduced by IMDB.

I understand, of course, that this is no proof. For decisive proof we need ask authors, I think.

'Aoife' is the spelling used on Syfy.com. http://www.syfy.com/lostgirl/photos/season_01_episode_0113

OK, this is a proof.

The correct spelling (Aoife) is also in the end credits of the pertinent episodes.

Which one?

Inga Cadranel appeared in three episodes: 1×10, 1×12, 1×13 and each time there was "spelling" Saskia in the end credits.

The correct spelling is Aife, as spelled in the Fae-vourite foe poll on the official Lost Girl website, and also confirmed by Direct Message on Twitter by writer & season 3 showrunner Emily Andras . Cheers, Faenonymous (talk) 14:52, October 11, 2012 (UTC)

A single use on a Showcase poll question is kinda shaky proof on which make major changes to the wiki. Tweets and personal messages are meaningess as proof as they can easily be changed or deleted. I'd look for more substantial evidence in the future. StarFire209 (talk) 16:22, October 11, 2012 (UTC)

Presumptions by editors are not facts about the series[]

This issue of the spelling of the character's name being "A-o-ife" instead of "A-ife" continues to rear its head periodically -- and some Anon editors persist in changing Aife, wherever it appears, to Aoife.  The spelling of the name is NOT the same spelling of the name of the Irish legend (Aoife).  The spelling given by the writers who created the character is Aife.  The Lost Girl Wiki abides only by what actually exists in the series based on the information provided by the original Canadian episodes; the show's home channel, Showcase; and the production company that creates Lost Girl, Prodigy Pictures.  The presumption or preference by some fans is not acceptable information for the Lost Girl Wiki.
