Character arc[]

The Lich is a ruthless Fae that found a way to cheat death and keep himself alive to feed on his insatiable hunger for knowledge. He ate human flesh to feed his body, but he lived to feed his mind.

The Lich collected cadavers to reanimate and obey his wishes. In raising the dead, he was able to experience their specific talents. The souls of those under the power of The Lich live a tortured existence, unable to 'pass over' and find eternal peace.

To protect his chi and achieve immortality, he put his life force in several vessels — his "entourage" of revivified bodies. To kill him, Bo (in her first revelation of a Dark Bo), sucked the chi out of all his victims at once.

As he was dying, Bo asked The Lich for the meaning of the nail The Morrigan had given her (in It's Better to Burn Out Than Fae Away). The Lich told Bo, with Lauren by her side, that Lauren's girlfriend wasn't sick — she had been cursed and the nail was an African shaman cursing nail. Somewhere there was a piece of wood with Nadia's nail in it. Remove the nail and she would most likely awaken.

Quotes[]

  • "A long life is only worthwhile if one can fill it with the extraordinary."
  • "You're the human doctor who found the cure. Your Ash was very wise to snatch you up. Lucky dog!" – to Lauren
  • "I've experienced things you people wouldn't believe. I felt the carnage as the Inquisition marched through Spain. I felt the heat from the flames as Rome was burnt to the ground. I felt..I felt...." – to Bo and Lauren (as he died)

Trivia[]

In fantasy fiction, a lich is a type of undead creature. Often such a creature is the result of a transformation, as a powerful magician or king striving for eternal life uses spells or rituals to bind his intellect to his animated corpse and thereby achieve a form of immortality. Liches are depicted as being clearly cadaverous, bodies desiccated or completely skeletal. Liches are often depicted as holding power over hordes of lesser undead creatures, using them as soldiers and servants. Unlike zombies, a lich retains revenant-like independent thought and is usually at least as intelligent as it was prior to its transformation. In some works of fiction, liches can be distinguished from other undead by their phylactery, an item of the Lich's choosing into which they imbue their soul, giving them immortality until the phylactery is destroyed.[1]
