The Nain Rouge is compelled to witness important events in time; such as terror, tragedy, and plague. She materializes in the form of a young girl before major disasters.
The Nain Rouge rarely appears and when she does it means trouble is on its way (Original Skin). She appeared to Bo to forewarn her that something old and terrible had awakened and was coming straight for her (Something Wicked This Fae Comes). This cataclysmic threat was about to ensue against all Fae, Light and Dark.
Bo's relationship with the Nain Rouge changes from somewhat overwhelmed to exasperated. She gave Bo a vision wherein Bo caused Trick's death. Bo challenged the Nain Rouge to appear and pushed her to confess its own fear of The Garuda. She then told Bo that The Garuda was the enemy of the Fae and to defeat it she needed to present a united front consisting of Light Fae and Dark Fae against it (Into the Dark).

The Nain Rouge, French for "red dwarf" or "red gnome", is a mythical creature that originated in Normandy, France, as a type of lutin (hobgoblin). In the United States, it haunts Detroit, Michigan, and is feared by its residents as "the harbinger of doom." Its appearance is said to presage terrible events for the city. The Nain Rouge appears as a small child-like creature with red or black fur boots. It is also said to have "blazing red eyes and rotten teeth."[1]
